Prep Like a Pro: How to Get the Most Out of Your Hair Appointment at Prism Salon

Whether you're a first-time guest or a regular behind the chair, a little prep before your hair appointment can make a hugedifference in how smoothly your service goes—and how amazing your results turn out. At Prism Salon, we’re all about maximizing your experience and helping you get the most out of your time in our chair.

Here’s everything you need to know to walk in confident, prepared, and ready for your best hair yet:

1. Fill Out Your New Guest Form (If You’re New!)

If it's your first time visiting us, make sure to fill out our New Guest Consultation Form before your appointment. This helps us understand your hair history, goals, and preferences so we can come to the appointment with a plan already in mind.

2. Don’t Wear a Shirt You Love (Especially Not White!)

We do everything we can to protect your clothes during your service—but we’re working with color, bleach, foils, and bowls. Sometimes a little splash or transfer can happen.

Pro tip: Avoid wearing white or anything you're super attached to. A dark button-up or zip-up hoodie is a stylist’s dream—it’s comfy, safe, and doesn’t need to go over your head after your blowout.

3. Skip the Root Spray or Grey Touch-Up Powder

If you regularly use root cover-up sprays or powders, please avoid applying them before your appointment. Even when they’re rinsed out, they can coat the hair and create a barrier that stops color from fully processing or covering your greys.

We’ve also noticed these products can require an extra 30–45 minutes just to clarify and dry the hair before we can even start your color—something we don’t usually plan for in your booking time.

To prep like a pro:

  • Use an exfoliating shampoo like MAXI.WASH by KEVIN.MURPHY a day or two before your appointment to detox the scalp and hair (you can purchase this product at Prism!)

  • Come in with dry hair that’s free of buildup, oil, or styling products.

4. Know What You Want—but Be Open to Suggestions

We love when you bring inspiration photos, reference colors, or even Pinterest boards. It helps us visualize your dream look. That said, we’ll always be honest about what’s realistic based on your hair’s current condition and how much time it may take to get there.

Not sure what you want? No worries—that’s what your consultation is for!

5. Plan Ahead and Pack Accordingly

Longer appointments (like transformations or extensions) can take a few hours. Make the most of it:

  • Bring a snack, drink, or headphones to stay comfy.

  • Don’t book anything immediately after—great hair shouldn’t be rushed.

6. For Returning Guests—No Secrets, Please

Look—we get it. Things happen between appointments. Maybe you tried a box dye, had a blowout that included a smoothing treatment, or played color chemist at home. We promise, we won’t be mad.

What is important is that you tell us everything that’s been done to your hair, even if it feels minor. We work with chemicals and need the full picture to make safe, informed decisions that protect your hair’s integrity and help us get the best possible results.

Honesty = healthy, happy hair.

Final Thought: Your Dream Hair Starts with Solid Prep

The magic happens in the salon—but the prep starts with you. When you arrive ready, relaxed, and informed, we can give you the best possible result with minimal stress and maximum glow.
